Oh. My . GOD! I loved this book so much!! Let me start out by saying that MC books usually aren't my forte, but Ms. Wolfe's just...do something for me. Let me tell you..."Playing With Monsters" really DID do something for me.

This is a story of Roman who is a faithful member of the Bare Bones MC. He'd do anything for his brothers because they're the family he never had. Speaking of family, Roman's stepfather is the Bare Bones' lawyer (His name is Slushy, and that totally suits him,), and he's got a problem. His daughter, Gudrun (Roman's stepsister), is in trouble. She's got a painkiller addiction that led her and two friends to a sleazy trap house where they are drugged and held captive. In fact, one has been taken away already. Slushy gets the MC chapter's president to allow Roman and the (hilarious) prospect, Wolf Glaser, to go and rescue her. The action takes off from there...and whoa boy! There is action!

MC books are all about the bad boys. "Playing With Monsters" is no exception. There are bikes, drugs, guns, parties, sweetbutts, and general mayhem. However, they're also about brotherhood. These men (and their women) would die for each other if need be. They've always got each other's backs, and this is what Roman is all about. When he brings Gudrun back to the club house, he begins to teach her exactly that. She's never had a real family before, and now, she's surrounded with it...and grows to love it.

Of course, revenge is needed. Nobody messes with the Bones' people and gets away with it. Throughout the rest of the book, the guys hunt down and aim to destroy the people responsible for these terrible actions. Along with the action and brutality, there is a love story. Now, I must warn you, it is taboo, and not necessarily for the faint of heart. Gudrun and Roman begin to fall for each other. Yes, yes, they're technically stepbrother and stepsister, but they are NOT related by blood. They have different mothers AND fathers. Their only connection is Slushy who married their mothers. Personally, I don't see a problem with this. Theirs is a genuine love, and it runs deep. Both are damaged people, and they have to fight and claw their way to each other, and when they come together, it's very special.

That being said, these two are so incredibly sexy together. I mean, gloriously sexy. Their passion is palpable and delightfully dirty in some cases. Three words...bar manager's office. That had to be one of the hottest sex scenes I've ever read. I mean that. Once again, it's not for everybody, but WOW!!

This was a fantastic book. It sucked me in, chewed me up, and spit me out. I feel like I've been rode hard and put away wet. I never lost interest or felt overwhelmed by the subject matter. The characters blend well...from Roman and Gudrun to all of the brothers, Slushy, and the rest of the background people. This is the fourth installment of the "Bare Bones MC" series. I suppose it could be read as a stand alone, but I recommend that you start from the beginning simply because everyone crosses over from one book to another. Also, they're just damn good books. If some really badass men, tough women, and wild rides are your thing, you will love this as much as I do.
I have read the first three books in The Bare Bones MC series so I already knew to expect extra violent, raunchy, dirty and gritty storylines and out of the normal type scenarios.
This is the story of Roman, a former rock star and Gudrun, the daughter of The Bare Bones MC's lawyer (and step-sister to Roman).
When Roman is dispatched as a Prospect to the task of rescuing Gudrun from a dangerous situation, he accepts the challenge because it will get him that much closer to earning the club's respect as a newly patched member. What he doesn't expect to happen is to develop more than brotherly feelings for Gudrun...after all, she's beautiful and sexy and not really related to him...so why not?
This book is one fast moving dangerous episode after another, as Roman and the club try to find Gudrun's missing friend who has been taken by some evil men, while protecting her from the traitorus Riker (who they thought had already been killed by Roman). During the tense times they are hiding out and on the run together, Roman and Gudrun give in to their sexual attraction and OMG...those were some of the HOTTEST foreplay scenes...and then finally the breaking of Roman self imposed celibacy and a complete surrender by Gudrun was so explicitly written that I got all kinds of tingly reading it.
As with all of the previous books in this series, they are not for the faint-hearted or for readers who can't deal with fetishes, non-con sexual activity, drug use or extreme violence. It does end with an implied HEA and although you can read this one on its own, I would recommend reading the first three to get the background on Ford, Madison and the rest of the crew to enhance the experience.

I love this series of MC books. There was a lot of action. Crazy storyline. Insane characters and a hot romance. I would definitely read another book by this author. All four books in the series have been amazing
Another thrilling ride with the Bare Bones! If you are looking for light and fluffy... this isn't the book for you. Playing With Monsters is gritty, raw and fantastic.

Oh. So. Dirty. (in the hottest way imaginable).

As someone who has followed the series... it was great to see some old friends (and even a few old enemies). However.. the book is absolutely strong enough to stand on its own. I do recommend you read the series in its entirety, though! Absolutely enhances the experience.
