Nobody Darling Teresa Medeiros Books

I loved everything about Nobody's Darling! Its been a while since I've read a book that entertained me so well! Teresa Medeiros has a great writing style, her characters were unique and jumped right out of the page with charm and grit. Everything has such a vivid feel to it, from the bachelor town of Calamity, to the charcters (both minor and major) on both sides of the Atlantic. It reminded me of Prince Charming which has the same feel good vibe to it.

Esmeralda Fine, granddaughter of a duke, older sister, orphan, and terrible singer, leaves the city and heads west to avenge/track down her baby brother rumored to have been murdered by famous gunslinger/wanted man Billy Darling. To say their first meeting is memorable would be an understatement, but it was perfect. Billing Darling comes off as a bit anti-hero at first but I loved watching him slowly reveal bits and pieces of his real self to Emse. After finding out her brother wasn't killed by Darling and that he might still be alive somewhere, Esme pulls all the stops to hire Billy to help her. Of course there's a villian out to stop these two from traveling a smooth road to happiness but the journey is never dull and the pace flows nicely.

The mystery of what actually happens to Esme's brother and who the real villian is in the story is quickly uncovered but this is a romance so the primary focus is on the MCs. This story is full of laughs and quiet a few gunslinger style shoot outs. When a book can make me laugh and leaves me with a soft warm glow at the end, its a keeper. Nobody's Darling will absolutely be re-read at a later date!

Memorable moments for me:
1. I loved finding out our hero is a lover of books (and had such a soft spot for animals!) He hid it from everyone but Billing Darling was a thinker and I loved that about him.
2. The jail scene with Esme, that scene really set the tone of the book for me, it was so funny! I loved this frightened girl who was head strong and stubborn but also so vulnerable.
3. The rocking chair scene - Billy sure has some creative and of so pleasurable ways of loving his woman! *fanning self*

Favorite Quote(s):
He wanted her badly. It wasn't right and it wasn't fair, but he wanted her anyway.

"I never wanted a gentleman . . . I wanted a man. I wanted you."

Nobody Darling Teresa Medeiros Books Reviews

There is nothing better than a well-written Western/Romance!

I remember once, years ago, a friend asked me what I liked to read. She just about fell off her horse laughing when I told her. I thought that was a little unfair, after all we lived in the West, and we were out on the trail with our horses, wearing our cowboy boots and hats, no less! Anyway, at the time, I was embarrassed to admit to my love for Western/Romance. No longer, at this point, I can bravely say that it is, hands-down, my favorite genre.

I love this book! It's funny, it's romantic, we have a cranky grandfather that finally comes to the rescue, a rascally band of brothers, an endearing old dog and an immensely likeable hero.

This one is a keeper, I highly recommend it!

The book is clean in terms of language, except for taking the Lord's name in vain once. There are two intimate scenes, easily skipped.
The story starts off with a bang in a very real sense as the heroine shoots the hero in a misguided attempt to avenge the reported death of her brother. Lucky for hero Billy Darling, she's a poor shot but it's just as well as her brother may not be as dead as she thinks he is. This book reminds me of an old John Wayne (or Audie Murphy for you really old gals) western shoot-em-up. The hero is a wild, rugged, thinking man who knows exactly what he wants out of life even if he is at first not quite sure how to get it. His legend may be bigger than his reality but his skills and aim are true. The heroine, Esmerelda is an English fish and chips out of water in New Mexico but she doesn't let that stop her from getting her man. Esme's backstory of how she came to be there in the first place is more than a little unbelievable but the author doesn't really dwell on it much so the reader shouldn't either. Ma Darling and the Darling gang are straight out of an old western movie in that they are laughably and lovingly cliched and stereotyped but their involvement is well-written and entertaining. This book rated 3 stars for not ending where it logically should have which was about 3/4ths of the way through. After that point there's just a lot of rehashing and wallowing in misery. I started to skip paragraphs and then pages because it really wasn't adding to the story for me. It was like ... she's miserable, he's miserable, blah, blah, blah -- yup, both still miserable, implausible plot twist, unnecessary element of danger annnnnndddddd DONE. There's also an epilogue that was completely off the wall odd that made me wonder if the author had to reach a certain word count to satisfy her publisher. This book is a fun and entertaining read by a talented author as long as you are prepared to zone out a little toward the end.
I love westerns. Cut my teeth on writers like Louis
L'amour. Love my historical romances. Perfect blend of both. Happy I bought it. Had to stay up late to finish it. Thoroughly enjoyed both lead characters and would enjoy it if Bart got his story too and the heroines namesake. The whole dynasty! I can see lots of stories of their kids and the characteristics they would inherit.
If you enjoy romantic historical western-get this. You won't be disappointed. I wasn't.
